Magic The Gathering
Water Fall Format

Water Fall is a Magic the Gathering format where your deck is your life count. There are no
dice necessary other than for the purpose of counters.

Whenever a player is hit for damage they mill the number of cards from the top of their deck
directly into their graveyard.

Creature abilities like Anger still function in the graveyard. Even though a player may have
quite the lump of flash back abilities or return to play cards in the graveyard they are still
limited with what they can play by the amount of mana on the table.
Time Frame:

More often than not, Waterfall 100 is faster than EDH but Waterfall 60 is slightly slower than a
normal game.

The Mist

When a player gains life they take the top card of their graveyard (For each life gained) and
place it in a deck next to their library called "Mist".

If a player has Mist when their library runs out their mist becomes the new library after being
shuffled. They do not lose the game until they have neither a library nor a mist.

Yes, this means a player can never gain more life than what they started with.
Altered Statements: Rule of Grave, Rule of Self, Rule of All

Waterfall does not have a Ban "list". Cards are continually being printed for Magic the
Gathering and with the addition of new cards every so many months it was much easier for
the player and the designer to create a system where actual statements rather than cards are
altered.

Any SENTENCE that attempts to shuffle the graveyard into the library is non-existent.

For example, Elixir of immortality’s oracle text reads:

You gain 5 life. Shuffle Elixir of Immortality and your graveyard into their owner's library.
In a game of Waterfall, Exlixir of Immortality would read:

You gain 5 life.

Any SENTENCE that SPECIFICALLY returns the spell itself to the library is non existen t
For example, Red Sun's Zenith Oracle Text:

Red Sun's Zenith deals X damage to target creature or player. If a creature dealt damage this
way would die this turn, exile it instead. Shuffle Red Sun's Zenith into its owner's library.

In a Game of Waterfall:

Red Sun's Zenith deals X damage to target creature or player. If a creature dealt damage this
way would die this turn, exile it instead.

Any sentence that returns ALL of something to the library returns up to ten of that instead.
For example: if a spell were to return all elves to your library it would instead return ten elves
to your library. This is true for permanents, lands, creatures types, spells etc.

Poison counters deal damage in the form of exiling three cards per a poison damage.
If you are hit with 1 poison damage exile 3 cards from the top of your library.
If you are hit with 2 poison damage exile 6 cards from the top of your library.

Additional Rules:

- If a players life is cut in half they mill until they match half their deck.
- If a players life is doubled they can only pull into their mist until their graveyard is emptied.
- Your life total is the number of cards in your Library.

Special Notes:

- Cards like "Jace, the mind sculptor" cannot affect "Mist" until it has become the new Library.
- It is perfectly legal for a graveyard to be exiled.
- It is perfectly legal for all cards from a graveyard or all graveyards to be put into play.
- You may return cards from the graveyard to the library. You just can't return the ENTIRE
GRAVEYARD or ALL CARDS of a certain type.

-Paying life (taking a card from the top of the deck and placing it into the graveyard) is not
considered drawing a card, discarding a card, exiling a card, or a card entering the graveyard.
It is simply paying life and must be treated that way for all purposes.

- The rule above also applies to poison.

- All players must begin the game with the same number of cards.

- Water Fall may be splashed with any other format of Magic with the exception of one where
players share a deck. Classic, EDH, Two-Headed Giant all work fine.

Magic Mirror Special Edition BETA

In 2004, I was bored and created something called "Magic Mirror":

This was right before obtaining my last computer: Sumomo.

Well, now that I have a new computer what better way to celebrate than by by creating another Magic Mirror?

This time around Magic Mirror doesn't just answer questions.

It's got some question of it's own.

Of course this is still BETA.

Enjoy it and let me know if you notice anything flunky.

2011 Grammy CD: My Personal Opinion

I went to Walmart for breakfast (there's only so many choices before 9) and I came across the Grammy CD. Last year's CD I saw in Costco. The final verdict was to leave it on the shelf and walk out the door. This year, I decided I was curious to hear what people have been listening to lately. Thirteen bucks for Nineteen songs is fair to me.

Before we begin, let's take a look at the bar code translation chart:

□□□□□ - A for effort maybe?
■□□□□ - A Generosity Point
■■□□□ - Almost good but still boring
■■■□□ - Good but not great
■■■■□ - A little better then good, fell short of great.
■■■■■ - I love it! Great. Definitely will listen to again.

Pretty straight forward right? Anyway, let's get started:

Forget You - ■■■□□

It's got a nice tune to it. I like it. A quick search and the original lyrics to the song are "fuck you". It's works better for the music video but I think "forget you" rolls off the tongue better. I still hate censorship though.

Nothin on you - ■■□□□

Meh, it's ok.

California girls - ■■■□□

Is there a version without snoop dog? The Kate perry part is kind of catchy. I can see it getting old real quick but for now it's fun.

Telephone - ■■■■■

Had a lot of fun with this one. Makes me want to purchase one of those colorful disco ball things for my room. My last one broke. I miss those.

Love the way you lie - ■□□□□

Rhiana started off the song great. M&M just doesn't do it for me. Although, I could see it as ok background music for a film. Not my cup of tea.

Need you now - ■■■■■

Hadn't heard this song until I purchased the CD. I've replayed it several times on the drive home from work last night. Great Song.

Ready to Start - □□□□□

Just sounds like a bunch of noise to me...

Whataya want from me - □□□□□

Feels like a song I've heard better versions of elsewhere. Nothing really original or catchy that caught my ear.

Half of my heart - ■■■■□

This is how to do country right. Repetitive but a nice song.

Haven't met you - ■■■■□

I know I've heard it before but I didn't know where it was from. I can see it getting old quick but I hope it doesn't too soon. For now, I like it a lot.

Just the way you are - ■□□□□

Meh. This song's target audience is every depressed women out there. Kind of annoys me. Nice voice but everything he says is pretty corny. I can easily picture a few people I know swearing it's a beautiful song.

This is It - ■■■□□

Didn't you die in 2009? Well, I suppose that adds to the song. It's a bit repetitive for me. Starts off nice though.

Beg steal or borrow - ■■□□□

I need some time to decide whether I like this one or not. Kind of slow.

The house that built me - □□□□□ I don't like it. Too slow, not enough of anything in particular.

Baby father - ■□□□□

Maybe fathers like it. I get bored.

The only exception - □□□□□

Nothing special. Why is this on the cd?

Hey, soul sista - ■■■■■

The first time I heard this I was driving a car in Valet. I fell in love with it. Great song. Why the live version?

Misery - ■■■□□

I've heard this song way too many times. Strangely enough, I don't remember where. Maybe commercials or something?

Don't stop Believin' - ■■■■□

Wow, first they could barely make it at regionals now they're at the grammy's. It's overplayed but still good.

20 Random Games You Should Play
And why you might choose not to

The world of video games is a fast paced one. As title after title is released sometimes it's easy to pass right by an incredible creation. We're all familiar with Smash Bros and Halo but there are so many games that either fly under the radar or have happened so long ago that we just miss the chance to play them all together.

I'd like you to take a moment away from Marvel vs Capcom 3, Black ops, or just plain "not really a gamer" to take a look at some of the incredible games that I think would be worth trying. I'm not going to say you'll like all of them but I'm darn sure something in this bunch will capture your attention. These games aren't just worth trying out. They're gems. As always hit the images to head off to some videos of game play.

Pocky & Rocky

Best Version: Super Nintendo, 1993 Natsume
Language: English
Memorable Quote: "I am your Adversary!"
Players: 2
Difficulty: HARD

A young shrine maiden by the name of Pocky is given a message by a tanuki named Rocky. This leads to an top-down perspective adventure that is both engaging and funny. Last but not least, the music is top notch.

Why you might not want to play it -

At first glance it looks like your stereotypical attempt to get the attention of all the Japanese obsessed Americans. Throw in a shrine maiden, a tanuki, and a whole buncho of Kami. When I first played Pocky and Rocky I had no idea it was based on Japanese mythology. I just knew it was awesome. What other game do you fight flying monkeys, a giant, bomb launching pirate turtles, ghosts, plant monsters, and a kraken ALL IN THE SAME LEVEL?

The Incredible Machine

Best Version: A tie between The Even More Incredible Machine 1993, MS-DOS and The Incredible Machine: Even More Contraptions 2001, Microsoft Windows/Macintosh
Language: English
Memorable Quote: "MEOW!" (as you drop a bowling ball on a cat)
Players: 1
Difficulty: Medium

The Incredible Machine is strategy game where you build a machine that accomplishes a goal per a level. That goal can be anything from "smash the fish tank" to "score all four basketballs in the basket". The parts to your machine can be cats, trampolines, rocket launchers, jack in the box, tennis balls, Bowling balls, pinball levers and much more. Outside of the main game you have a free play mode and in the 2001 version a mode where you can create your own puzzle to upload online.

Why you might not want to play it -

It's single player. Those are all the downsides. The Good heavily outweighs them. It gets you thinking and has the option to just plain goof around. If you don't want to solve puzzles you can just plain build them.

Tiny Toons: Buster Busts Loose

Best Version: SNES, 1993
Language: English
Memorable Quote: "DASH!!!"
Players: 1
Difficulty: Hard with Several Cheat Codes to jump to a level or play Bonus only Stages

Ever wonder why games based on television series and movies will often times suck? Consumers are more likely to buy a game simply for the fact that it is based around a particular character. It doesn't matter if a game sucks, just plaster Harry Potter on it and it will sell. Developers know this and as a result they often pay less to make sure the game is good. Tiny Toon Adventures is one of those games that not only captured the look and feel of the show but it gave you a challenge and mercy via cheat codes if you just couldn't beat the football level. (My case)

Why you might not want to play it -

Hard core gamers are subconsciously trained to avoid games based on tv series and films. No joke. If your going to backtrack to the SNES why play Tiny Toons when you can play Sonic, Mario, or Zelda? Did you notice this was the first video I chose to embedded instead of making the image a link to the video? That's because you should watch it. Tell me that doesn't look fun.

Beach Spikers

Best Version: GameCube, 2001 SEGA
Language: English
Memorable Quote: "Fantastic!"
Players: 4
Difficulty: Medium

The core reason this game is great is because of the mechanics. It plays well. The controls are simple, the game challenging, unlimited replay value, camera angles are great, and the music is fun. Sorry perverts, but there's no watermelon chested ladies here. In fact, they tried animating a bit of fan service into the game and it just ended up hilariously awkward. (Sometimes when you win the teammates will hug) It costs like three bucks if you can find it at your local game stop. Also worth noting, free play mode allows you to play volley ball with a bomb that grows larger and larger until exploding on the field. It's a fan favorite.

Why you might not want to play it -

You don't like sports games, You're too cool for volley ball, you don't own a game cube or Wii. It' still worth trying. This game is perfect to play with friends. Co-op or Versus. Buy it for five bucks and find someone who has a wii/gamecube. You will have fun and it's a hell of a lot cheaper than mulligans.

The Beatles Rockband

Best Version: PS3, XBOX 360, or WII, MTV GAMES 2009
Language: English
Memorable Quote: The Sound of Women Screaming
Players: 4
Difficulty: Medium

By far the shortest, easiest, yet most AMAZING of the guitar based games: Beatles Rock Band is a trip. There was some serious love put into the creation of this game and it shows. It may be a little bit more well known than some of the other titles on this list but it's still worth mentioning. I'm surprised at the number of individuals who have yet to play this game. They're bigger than Jesus.

Why you might not want to play it -

Not a Beatles fan? I've always believed there's no such thing as a non-Beatles fan. Only someone who hasn't heard the right Beatles song. If you still disagree then just don't play it. Really, go play with rocks or something.

Shadow of Colossus

Best Version: PS2, Possibly Ps3 Rerelease
Language: English
Memorable Quote: "ROOOOOOOOOOOOAR!!!"
Players: 1
Difficulty: Medium-Hard

Soon to be re-released in HD, Shadow of colossus is a masterpiece. Ride your horse through a barren land and when you arrive at each collosus take it down. So simple yet so amazing. Watch the video to get a closer feel of the game.

Why you might not want to play it -

Just boss fights? That's it? Well, you have a horse too. Part of shadow of colossus is the fact that each boss is a level in itself. These creatures are huge monstrous beings that tower over mountains. You are a teenager with a sword. This is one of those few times where using the phrase "Epic" is appropriate.

Arcana Heart 3

Best Version: Ps3
Language: Japanese
Memorable Quote: "DOWN!"
Players: 1
Difficulty: Medium

I rarely play a game that is flooded with fan service let alone IMPORT one. Arcana Hearts 3 was something I couldn't pass up. The fighting system intrigued me. Plus, I always play as the female characters so this gave me more to choose from. In Arcana hearts 3 you choose one of 23 characters (all female) and combine them with an "Arcana Card" (23 total) to make it's full move list. Each character has certain buttons used for their own moves and others used for Arcana Moves.

Why you might not want to play it -

Your friends will raise an eye or you can't read Japanese. Well, I can't really do anything about your friends raising an eye but I can tell you the menus translate into English when placed inside a American PS3. Also, the last boss is a Giant Mech. That's pretty cool.

UPDATE: Arcana Hearts 3 is now available in the Playstation Store.

Princess Maker 2

Best Version: DOS 1993 GAINEX
Language: Engrish
Memorable Quote: "..."
Players: 1
Difficulty: Easy

It's not very often that someone recommends a game so old the sound won't play on your computer. Also, if you have Windows 7 but not "Ultimate" DOS applications are a B*tch to load. That's why I recommend you play it now before technology moves so advance that it will have fallen out of play forever. The basic story of Princess Maker 2 is the gods have chosen you (A former legendary warrior) to raise their daughter from eight years old to adulthood. You make her schedule on a weekly basis and watch her grow. At different ages she can go to different schools and various jobs. The decisions you make will affect everything from her weight and muscle mass to her attitude and what the gods will choose to do with her when she turns 18. One daughter I made a lumberjack stripper that the gods banned from ever coming back while the other was a princess warrior the gods felt would be best in my care.

The game was set to be released in America but the project was later abandoned just as the game leaked. The only way to get a hold of it is to download it from a site that hosts it.

Why you might not want to play it -

It has the word "Princess" in it. Just because it sounds like a girly dress up game doesn't mean it is. This game is for teens and up if anything. I would not let a seven year old girl play this game. When I say that I corrupted my daughter I mean it. She ran away from home and money started appearing in the bank. That's when I found out she married a man three times her age. The multiple endings for this game are pretty numerous and the game is 99% translated.

Super Swing Golf Season 2

[It's in English but I liked the Trailer for the Japanese one better]

Best Version: Wii, 2007 Tecmo
Language: English
Memorable Quote: "PANGYA!"
Players: 4
Difficulty: HARD

What really caught my attention about this game was it's environments. I don't know any other golf game where you can play courses on hot lava, snow, desert, and beaches all in one game. The mechanics are pretty much the same as they've been for any other golf game and that's good because the standard formula works. This is no Tiger Woods. The characters are cartoons and the balls can catch fire and leave a trail of flower petals. That's good though. Super swing is a fun game to play because it's not your typical golf game.

Why you might not want to play it -

You don't like golf games. I can understand this. Some people just don't like taking turns and aren't as excited by the game play. That's fine. I just wanted to point out that if you are going to play a golf game this one is a blast to play.

Dark Stalkers / Vampire Savior

Best Version: Vampire Savior 2: Lord of the Vampire or Darkstalkers 3 CAPCOM
Language: Japanese/English
Memorable Quote: "SHADOWBLADE"
Players: 2
Difficulty: Easy

If you've played any of the "vs Capcom" games chances are you've seen Morrigan, Lilith, B.B. Hood, and Felicia. This is the game series they are from. If for some reason you're wondering why I suggested both the English and Japanese version I can explain. When "Vampire Savior 2: Lord of the vampire" was sent to America to become "Darkstalkers 3" the blood was colored white to look like sweat. Basically they're the same game except one has blood and the other is a poor cover up but in English. It all depends on what you like more: Blood or English menus and story line. Darkstalkers 3 is for some favored over Street Fighter. The characters move faster, the game has a darker theme, and it has become a classic as it has not been printed since 1998 but still plays on the PS3.

Why you might not want to play it -

The load times are about as long as those for Tekken but it's not unbearable. Do yourself a favor and at least give it a go as this is not just a great game but also a piece of CAPCOM'S History. Plus, it's possible they may pursue this again someday and when they do you'll be a step up.

Yoshi's Island

Best Version: Super Nintendo 1995
Language: English
Memorable Quote: "Mine! Mine! Mine!"
Players: 2 (Select + X, X, Y, B, A on Map)
Difficulty: Easy

It was a tiny shimmer in the gaming world as most of us were anticipating the release of the Nintendo 64. Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island wasn't just a Mario Game it was a prequel to every other Mario Game out there. As Yoshi it is your job to protect Baby Mario on a journey to find his long lost brother.

Why you might not want to play it -

Some people don't like platformers or "kid games". I've always found it sad that many of the people who call themselves "Hard Core Gamers" really mean to call themselves stubborn gamers. Every Genre has it's gems and for platformers, this is it. Some people don't like Disney and some people don't like Nintendo. Go figure.

Rag Doll Kung Fu: Fist of Plastic

Best Version: Playstation Network, Sony Computer Entertainment 2009
Language: Engrish
Memorable Quote: The Theme Song
Players: 2 (Select + X, X, Y, B, A on Map)
Difficulty: Medium

Heavily advertised, temporarily given out for free, why does it still remain under the radar? Ragdoll Kung-fu is one of those games that feels just like the trailer. It's complete chaos.

Why you wouldn't want to play it -

Maybe the trailer looks good but the game looks dumb. Nope, you're wrong. The game is ridiculously fun. Dodge ball mode is my favorite. I said the difficulty was medium but to really accomplish all the goals in the game is pretty hard. It's well balanced and a ton of fun to play with a friends.

Aladdin

Best Version: Sega Genesis, SEGA 1993
Language: English
Memorable Quote: "SQUAK!"
Players: 1
Difficulty: HARD with Several Cheat Codes to jump to a level

Aladdin, much like Tiny Toons, is another game adaptation done right. I honestly can't say how many times I went back to play the Genies Lamp or carpet ride stage. The designer didn't follow the movie completely but instead knew how to create levels that would be close enough. Plus, Aladdin is a pretty strong series. Three movies and a television series ain't half bad.

Why you might not want to play it -

Much like I discussed with Yoshi's island some people despise Disney. They don't like musicals and cartoons aren't their thing. I'm pretty sure they're not Neon Wind readers so let's just move along shall we?

The Simpsons Bart's Nightmare

Best Version: I prefer the Super Nintendo One
Language: English
Memorable Quote: "WHOA!"
Players: 1
Difficulty: HARD with semi-random levels

After falling asleep at your homework (Bart Simpson) you dream about an endless neighborhood street where pieces of paper will float by that you can jump into. Once in them you are given a choice between two colored doors. Each leads to a different dream based around the Simpson characters. I've never met anyone who has beat the game yet I've never met someone who didn't have fun playing it either.

Why you might not want to play it -

Your not a Simpsons fan. I really don't know how fun this game would be if you weren't a fan. When I played it as a kid I wasn't allowed to watch the Simpsons so I had no idea who any of the characters were. I liked it though. If you know what the Simpson are and you dislike then that's a different story. Maybe this game isn't for you. Still worth mentioning though.

Rhapsody: A Musical Adventure

Best Version: PS1 for English Vocals, DS for Japanese Vocals with subtitles
Language: English or Japanese
Memorable Quote: "Prince"
Players: 1
Difficulty: Easy

You'd think from the title that the great part of this game would be in the songs but there's not as much musical interruptions as you'd expect for a "Musical Adventure". What really makes this game great is the character interaction. (It was created by the same studio that brought us Disgaea) Unlike Disgaea The gameplay mechanics are very simple with the DS version battles sometimes lasting less than ten seconds. I like that though. It feels like your playing a Disney Game.

Why you might not want to play it -

This game is extremely Girly. You play as Cornet a young girl obsessed with marrying the prince. In fact, the whole town is obsessed with it too. I found a guy in the castle who wished he could be the princes wife. Duke Nuke em' this game is not. Your weapons are candy and pancakes and your companions are puppets. For some guys, no problem. Others just can't handle it. Fine. Be afraid.

Kira Kira Music Hour / Kira Kira Music Night

Best Version: Night or Hour
Language:Japanese
Memorable Quote: "RAINBOW!"
Players: 1
Difficulty: Medium

Pinky:st dolls are small interchangeable dolls sold in japan. I may be a little baised as I own a few of them. (Twenty-four including the Street Fighter and SNK series!) but that's beside the point. The game is fun. Outside Japan it was released in the U.K. as "Kira Kira Pop Princess" and as Americans we got Jipped. It's another title worth importing. I found one on Ebay for $5 but usually the price runs around $35. Music Night is a bit more challenging and has more clothes but Music Hour has more songs.

Why you might not want to play it -

For the same reason you wouldn't want to play Rhapsody. It's girly. No zombies or shotguns here. Just Dancing and kittens. Still, it's an interesting way to incorporate dancing into the DS.

Board Game Top Shop

Best Version: Play Station 1
Language:English
Memorable Quote: "Pick a Card"
Players: 5
Difficulty: ?????

Imagine if Monopoly didn't last fourty-one hours, it took place in a Mall, and you could play as Chuck Norris. Well, not really but that's what my friend Blaze calls him. Board Game Top Shop is the only game that even my Mother will play. It's replay value is the most of any game I've ever owned and it's the perfect game for a group of friends.

Why you might not want to play it -

You live alone and have no friends... Board game top shop isn't as entertaining by yourself. Two or more people and it's great.

Star Wars: Episode 1 Racer

Best Version: 64 has co-op PC has more music. Take your pick.
Language: Space Alien and English
Memorable Quote: "It's a New Lap Record!"
Players: 1-2
Difficulty: Medium

Star Wars Episode 1 racer was released on both PC and Nintendo 64. It was and still is one of the fastest racing games around. One of my favorite things about this game is hearing the space aliens curse at each other.

Why you might not want to play it -

The game is fast. That's why people like it. You are constantly on the edge of your seat from beginning to end and praying to God that you don't crash. For some people Mario Kart would probably be a better decision.

Oregon Trail 2

Best Version: Oregon Trail 2 for Windows or Mac.
Language: English
Memorable Quote: "has died of dysentery"
Players: 1 with friends laughing next to you.
Difficulty: Easy

The greatest educational game ever released. If you disagree then it's possible you ate the wrong berries before reading this article. I was at work and none of my fellow employees could guess where the phrase "Ford the river" came from. It was a depressing day and motivated me to place Oregon trail on the list.

Why you might not want to play it -

It's an Educational Game for kids. If I had no idea what Oregon Trail was and I looked at the cover I don't know if I'd be motivated to play it. That's not the case though. I DO know what Oregon trail is and the game is Iconic. It is the only game on this list I have yet to find someone that didn't like playing it that actually tried it out.

Gun Star Heroes

Best Version: Sega Genesis
Language: English
Memorable Quote: "HIYA!!!"
Players: 2
Difficulty: Medium

I don't know if I ever figured out the story of Gun Star Heroes. Something about a mad scientist who sends you out on an adventure to defeat these military people. Whatever, it's part mega man, part metal slug, and it kicks ass. My favorite level being the giant board game.

Why you might not want to play it -

You don't have a Sega Genesis or Playsation Network, or Xbox Live or Wii Virtual Console. Poor thing.

Fanhouse.com Hosts 2011 Super Bowl Ads

Those of you who have been reading The Neon Wind long enough could have predicted this. Hit the image to jump on over to fanhouse.com where you'll find all the 2011 super bowl ads arranged by quarter.

I think last years commercials were better but there were definitely some shining stars. (Mmm, I love that cereal) The Darth Vader and "best fans ever" were some of my favorites. I don't really watch football but I think that commercial made me want to. Fonzie was in it.

Ayyyyye...

It's The Super Paper Bowl!

I may not be big when it comes to football but there was a middle school sport I remember all too well. Thus, I have created a gift for the readers of The Neon Wind. Does this look Familiar?
I looked all across the internet and there really wasn't any free Paper Football Makers. I was hoping to cheat a little and save some time. Ah well, it was fun. Below you can download the paper fooball templates to:

Green Bay Packers VS Pittsburgh Steelers.

And for the less serious... Black Eyed Peas vs the Dallas Cheerleaders.

Both are in PDF Formats.
